Navigating Senior Year: A Guide to the Student Success Center at Samueli Academy

Written by: Fatima Juarez

Senior year is an exciting milestone for every young person, and for youth living at Samueli Academy, there are many opportunities to celebrate, create memories, and prepare for life after graduation. With four seniors currently living in our dorms, we wanted to share some of the senior activities, resources, and support available to these students throughout their final year.

At Samueli Academy, the Student Success Program plays an important role in helping students make the most of their high school experience. The Student Success Center provides resources and financial support for many school activities, supplies, college applications, and other needs throughout the year.

Senior Activities & Celebrations

Senior year comes with plenty of opportunities to celebrate! Many of these activities are covered through the Student Success Program, so Resource Parents can feel confident knowing that students have access to these memorable experiences.

Some of the activities and expenses supported by the Student Success Center include:

  • Senior Six Flags Trip

  • Senior Grad Night at Disneyland

  • School Dances

  • Yearbooks

  • Senior Digital Picture Packages

  • School-Sponsored Senior Events Throughout the Year

Graduation Essentials

Graduation is one of the biggest milestones of senior year. Students will need a cap and gown for graduation. Students may be able to borrow a cap and gown through the school, or a Resource Parent may choose to purchase one for the student.

Additional extras like class rings, senior sweaters, or school swag are completely optional. While these personal keepsakes aren't covered by the Student Success Center, Resource Parents are welcome to purchase them if they choose.

Student Resources

To complement the holistic support provided through our Youth Connected Program, the Student Success Center works to remove everyday financial and practical barriers for both students and resource families.

Students can receive support with:

  • Free bus transportation throughout Orange County

  • School supplies and backpacks

  • Sports and club supplies

  • Professional clothing when needed

  • Other school-related resources

This support allows students to participate in activities and access opportunities without having to worry about whether they can afford the supplies or transportation they need.

Preparing for Life After High School

Senior year isn't only about graduation it is also about preparing youth for what comes next.

Support is available throughout the entire college application process to help youth take the next steps toward their educational goals. Whether a student is interested in attending a four-year university, community college, or pursuing another educational pathway, they have dedicated guidance every step of the way as they plan for their future.

And the support doesn't necessarily end at graduation. Samueli Academy also provides alumni services, giving youth continued support as they transition into life after high school.

Supporting Our Seniors

Senior year can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially for youth preparing to transition into adulthood. At our Youth Connected Program, our Resource Parents play an important role in helping youth feel supported, celebrated, and encouraged during this important chapter.

With the support of Samueli Academy's Student Success Program, students have access to a variety of experiences and resources that help make senior year memorable while also preparing them for their next steps.

For Resource Parents

You don't have to navigate senior year alone. If you have questions about an upcoming senior activity, school expense, or resource available to your student, reach out to the Youth Connected Program team. We're here to help you and your youth make the most of this exciting milestone.
