The Youth Connected Program (YCP) believes it takes a community to empower our teens in foster care. While our Collaborative Resource Parents provide the essential long-term foundation, we need compassionate community members to step in and offer crucial, short-term support.
Becoming a Respite Resource Parent is one of the most powerful ways you can make a difference without committing to a full-time placement. You provide a safe, nurturing, and familiar environment when existing YCP resource families need a brief, well-deserved break—ensuring stability is never lost for the youth in our care.
What is a Respite Resource Parent?
A Respite Resource Home is an approved home whose essential function is to offer short-term care to youth already placed within the YCP. This role will go through the same process as our other collaborative foster parents to be fully approved.
Your role is to step in during times when our existing families need temporary relief, providing consistent support to the teens they care for.

Offering routine and care when full-time parents need personal time.
Holidays:
Ensuring a warm, celebratory, and stable environment during breaks.
Emergencies:
Providing immediate, critical care when a family crisis occurs.
We understand that a full-time commitment isn't right for everyone. The Respite Resource Home model allows you to offer your compassion on a flexible, as-needed basis while still being a vital member of the YCP community.

How You Are Supported:
Your role is strictly short-term, focused on weekends, holidays, and emergencies, making it an excellent fit for busy schedules. -
How You Are Supported:
Like all YCP Resource Parents, you will have access to our trauma-informed training, 24/7 on-call social workers, and the full support system of our Foster Family Agency (FFA) staff and the Samueli Academy community. -
How You Are Supported:
You will receive a nightly stipend for each night a youth spends in your care to help cover their needs. -
How You Are Supported:
Should your circumstances change, you can easily transition from being a Respite Resource Home to a full-time Collaborative Resource Home at any time.
